About the restaurant: This west of Western Avenue neighborhood restaurant nails the lodge feel; diners might crackle peanut shells on the floor, and a massive open fire commands the front dining room. Nary a TV is in sight to keep the focus on what’s important: food, family and friends. Roomy booths accommodate the largest of broods, who might spend part of the meal looking around the space for vintage touches, including old-timey photo booths and fish tanks.

Likes: No TVs so you can truly focus on conversation.

Food & Drinks: Owner Nick Sarillo’s third installment of the restaurant is in family-friendly Lincoln Square. The menu is classic neighborhood tavern fare; think juicy Italian beef, hunky chicken wings catered to a spice level and pizza layered evenly with ingredients such as green pepper, cheese, sausage and onion (Nick’s Special). The MEAT’ZA piles on sausage, bacon, pepperoni, garlic and cheese. Burgers, soups, sandwiches and salads complete the menu. Wash down the grub with local beer, from Midwestern purveyors such as Haymarket Brewery, Revolution Brewery and Greenbush Brewery, to name a few.
