NICO Kitchen + Bar Restaurant Review:

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is the dramatic backdrop for NICO Kitchen + Bar. Chef Ryan DePersio, of Fascino and Bar Cara in Montclair/Bloomfield, designed the “Italian without Borders” menu, which is appealing and trendy with eclectic tapas options and enticing contemporary dinner dishes. The “Bar” part of NICO is a lively and sophisticated space featuring crafted cocktails and “bites.” One such “bite” is pomegranate chili wings with a creamy Gorgonzola dipping sauce. Presentation is always elegant. Take note of the romaine wedge: greens wrapped like a pretty present in delicate and whisper-thin cuts of 24-month aged prosciutto. Among entrées is olive-crusted Scottish salmon on parsnip purée resting in a bright puddle of warm tomato broth. A solid wine list adds to the pleasure, with 20-plus selections available by the glass. On performance nights and at matinees, NICO offers a three-course, prix-fixe menu comprised of dishes designed to reach the table quickly so that guests won’t miss curtain. But don’t rush away without dessert. Chilled strawberry rhubarb soup with yogurt panna cotta is a summery delight.
