: The Neilsen’s are a third generation family of deli owners from Denmark who opened their first shop in Houston in the 1950s. This is a bright white, plain-as-vanilla take-out joint with only one tiny counter where some people stand and eat, but Neilsen's does one thing and they do it well---they make traditional deli sandwiches and salads from generations old recipes. The pastrami, roast beef and corn beef sandwiches served on sliced whole wheat, rye or pumpernickel are piled high with cold cuts, wrapped in wax paper and served with a kosher pickle and chips. Potato salad is thick with homemade mayonnaise and the fresh deviled eggs and beet salad are also noteworthy. Expect fast service, good food and nothing more. |
