Noche Mexicana Restaurant Review:
This Upper West Side Mexican eatery is often described as a “hole in the wall,” but it’s exactly the type of hole you hope to find when you’re starving for good Mexican. The diverse and novel-size menu includes all the standards (even stuffed tacos for $2.50), but Noche really hits the mark with its less-typical options: the pipian de pollo, slightly salty but rich pumpkin seed sauce slathered over chicken, makes for great tacos (corn tortillas come on the side); salted beef is enhanced by cactus; and the chilate, spicy chili soup served with shrimp, tastes good in summer and winter. The red and green mole dishes are hearty enough for two.
