THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Old Siam Restaurant Restaurant Review:
We loved the Thai predecessor of this Gaithersburg restaurant and looked forward to eating here once again. But we found the new one rather disappointing, a shadow of what went before. The décor remains, but the kitchen has taken a turn toward some westernized Thai dishes. We found, for example, the fish salad, which at most other places is cooked and chopped-up catfish, here is a tuna that tastes canned and is stirred with fixings that turn it into a sandwich filling. Equally unmemorable were the khanom jeeb (steamed dumplings, with a shrimp, crab meat and ground pork filling), they were easily left uneaten. The best part of the meal was the fried soft-shell crabs; the requested curry was not available.
