THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED One/Fifth Steak Restaurant Review:
Chef Chris Shepherd has taken over the historic church on Westheimer Road that most recently housed Mark’s. The catch is that each year the restaurant will change concepts, a first-of-its-kind for Houston, and hence the name of One/Fifth. The first version is One/Fifth Steak, Shepherd’s take on a classic steakhouse featuring a raw bar and big steaks, like the 36-ounce, wet-aged porterhouse from local 44 Farms. There are also wood-roasted lamb neck, chicken and pork collar. Sides include a loaded twice-baked potato, creamed greens with bacon sausage and a broccoli and rice casserole. A well curated wine list and full bar --- heavy on bourbons and classic craft cocktails --- round out the drinks selections, while the one-and-a-half pound, wood fire baked apple pie is a standout among the small array of desserts. This is a great date nightspot, but come now because on July 31, 2017, it will close for one month as Shepherd completely redecorates and changes the menu as the space evolves into a European restaurant opening September 1.
