Pan-Latin fare heats up Manhattan’s West Side.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ooviña Restaurant Review:
Ooviña serves home-style pan-Latin fare with a twist from chef Giovanni Morales’ Guatemalan family kitchen. The welcoming white retro space provides diner-style seating. Start with the spicy jalapeño margarita or another handcrafted cocktail, or a glass of one of the boutique wines or grower Champagnes. The gluten-free menu offers unusual tacos (pulled chicken with cilantro slaw, crisped pork loin with avocado aïoli), seafood (pan-seared scallops in herbed butter with crispy bacon, artichoke leaves and diced olives), meat (arroz con chorizo with house-made jalapeño sausage; chicken and hominy in a tomatillo broth; handmade cassava gnocchi with bacon in a garlicky Parmesan lemon sauce) and vegetables (fork-tender artichokes in herbs, hand-cut spiced fried potatoes drizzled with white truffle oil, Parmesan and herbs). For dessert, choose dulce de leche flan or sweet plantains stuffed with sweet black bean purée.
