Osteria Savio Volpe Restaurant Review:

Osteria Savio Volpe, which means "tavern of the wise fox," is a collaboration of three industry veterans --- a designer, a chef, and a front-of-house general manager. Savvy diners are attracted by a daily changing menu of simple, soulful Italian dishes made with fresh, regionally-sourced ingredients, all presented in a gracious, light-filled room. Starters may include ox tongue tonnato and mozzarella with smashed peas and favas and mint. A half dozen daily pastas can include spaghetti with artichokes, prosciutto and butter. All are made in-house, as are the bread, ricotta and preserves. The open kitchen's wood-burning grill and rotisserie turns out spit-roasted rosemary-lemon chickens, legs of lamb, whole grilled fish and hearty sausages. Grilled steaks are a menu mainstay, while entrées such as the rabbit cacciatore, meatballs with neck bone gravy, and squid with dandelion greens, fava beans and potato purée are rustic and unpretentious. Vegetables are served as side dishes and might bring savory lentils, cannellini beans with sage, or smashed carrots sparked with horseradish. All dishes are meant to be shared, including the tiramisu sundae with Beta 5 gelato, Marsala and hazelnuts. The bar serves just three cocktails: a Negroni, Aperol Spritz, and an Americano perfecto, plus a compact selection of local craft beers. Be sure to check out the all-Italian wine list. Service is uniformly professional.
