Outback Steakhouse Restaurant Review:

The “no rules” slogan applies to reservations (none are taken), but you can call ahead and have your name put on the waiting list for this Australian-themed steakhouse in Thousand Oaks. Curbside takeaway service is a nice alternative to waiting in line. If you aren’t in the mood for the calorie overload known as the bloomin’ onion appetizer, try starting with seared ahi splashed with soy dressing. Steaks are in the name and there’s a good selection of them for far less money than some of the trendier steakhouses. Victoria’s center-cut filet costs only $22 for nine ounces. The Melbourne, a 20-ounce porterhouse, is a steal at $26. More items like chicken, shrimp and scallops can be simply grilled and served with wild rice and vegetables. For dessert, the Chocolate Thunder From Down Under is not, as the name suggests, ferried out by buffed, half-naked, exotic male dancers with an accent. But it is a brownie sundae, which should be almost as satisfying to the ladies. A second location is at 2341 Lockwood St., Oxnard, 805-988-4329.
