THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED P*ong Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Despite chef-owner Pichet Ong’s pastry background, which includes touted turns at Spice Market and RM, there’s more than just desserts at this sleek little dining lounge. The vaguely Asian design features a long, curving bar; olive- and raspberry-colored walls; and a scattering of white-topped tables lined up like sugar cubes. The dishes, whether sweet or savory, share a determined amount of decadence and are doted on with a dessert designer’s eye. A gorgeously lush foie gras brûlée comes with brioche, Cognac, cherries and biscotti jelly, for example, and arugula-basil ice cream cools down a rich yet light Stilton soufflé. Not surprisingly, the dessert list holds the highlights, with cleverly balanced sweets that never cloy. Creamy, tart rounds of chèvre cheesecake croquettes sit on perky chunks of roasted pineapple, and fluffy miso ice cream feels right at home sandwiched between moist extra virgin olive oil cake sprinkled with fresh baby strawberries. Traditionalists will warm to a straightforward chocolate Bavarian tart topped with caramelized bananas and Ong’s famous Ovaltine ice cream. The restaurant offers an à la carte menu, but dining dilettantes can span the flavor spectrum with any of the tasting menus, which range from 17 courses for $100 to a $63 ten-course tasting to the $25 dessert trio. Creative mixed drinks, like a Madagascar vanilla martini, make the spot a worthy stop for cocktailers, too.
