![]() : The Palace, long the stronghold of New Orleans cooking in Santa Barbara, keeps the crowds coming back for Cajun and Creole specialties like appetizers of thick gumbos and spicy Cajun crayfish popcorn; and main courses such as Creole crayfish crab cakes and straight-out-of-the-bayou blackened Louisiana redfish. Also notable are the rich, zesty gumbo ya-ya and the Oysters Palace consisting of oysters on the half shell with mushroom, topped with a jalapeño beurre blanc. Whet your whistle with a Cajun martini and finish your meal with sweet potato pecan pie on a bed of Chantilly cream, or the dark chocolate soufflé served warm with chocolate bourbon cream sauce. Service can be slow but the convivial atmosphere makes every night feel like a party. On weekends, there’s live entertainment on the street to keep the lines of hungry people happy. |
