Panera Bread Restaurant Review:
This St. Louis-based outfit prides itself on its sourdough breads made from a starter that was created in San Francisco 30 years ago. Fresh bread, muffins and cakes are baked daily. Good coffee, hearty sandwiches and tasty soups make this a good stop any time of day. The hot pressed panini sandwiches are tasty, gooey and jammed packed with fillings like smoked turkey, braised pork, mozzarella, and fresh basil. Wait for a chilly day to try the hearty French onion soup served in a sourdough bread bowl, it’s topped with an odd cheese called provel, a St. Louis specialty that is a blend of cheddar, Swiss and provolone cheeses. As a community service, Panera donates all unsold bread at the end of the day to local charities.
