The Perfect Wife Restaurant & Tavern Restaurant Review:
Chef-owner Amy Chamberlain, a self-described aspiring "perfect wife," takes American food to a whole new level. Her grilled filet mignon isn't just good steak. She prepares it with wild mushrooms, roast garlic and a Guinness stout demi-glaze. Or try the sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna seared medium rare over stir-fried vegetables. And her heart-healthy Howling Wolf Special --- steamed vegetables, roasted yams and whole-grain pilaf topped with yellow curry satay sauce and cherry chutney --- is animal- and dairy-free. The restaurant is downstairs on the garden level, and large windows give it an open, airy feel. Upstairs in the cozy tavern (called “The Other Woman”) you can savor comfort food like turkey chili, pulled pork and Miracle Loaf: Chamberlain's version of meatloaf. The tavern menu also has standard pub fare including hearty burgers and crab cakes, as well as a kids' menu. On weekends during ski season, an eclectic assortment of rock, reggae, blues and jazz bands plays in the tavern. The Perfect Wife is located a few miles east of Manchester Center on the way down from Stratton and Bromley ski resorts.
