Pho Van Restaurant Review:
Amid the car dealers on 82nd Avenue, Pho Van stands out as a welcome oasis. The cavernous dining area is elegant and beautifully decorated with Vietnamese artwork. As expected, the extensive menu includes many variations of pho, all based on a deeply aromatic and rich broth. The signature soup features thinly sliced rare beef, meatballs, tripe or tendons, but feel free to choose noodles and proteins to suit your preference. Fresh herbs and greens accompany the steaming bowls, and a variety of hot sauces on the table may inspire explosive tastes. Try the crispy salad rolls and the banh xeo, a rice flour crȇpe stuffed with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts, mung beans and onions. Roasted catfish with lettuce, cucumbers, shredded banana blossoms and a variety of tropical fruits is another interesting dish. Thai beer and a small wine list are available, while the creamy, sweet Thai iced tea and refreshing sweet-tart lime soda have many fans. For dessert, sample the intriguing banana bread pudding served on a bed of coconut tapioca pearl sauce. Prices are startlingly inexpensive. Also located at 11651 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy., Beaverton Town Square, 503-627-0822.
