PhoBar Restaurant Review:

About the décor: PhoBar presents a relaxed space characterized by natural wood floors, chairs and tables, decorative palm frond-shaped ceiling accents and exposed brick.

Likes: The slow-cooked broths in the pho offerings were full of concentrated flavors.
Dislikes: The beef was thinly sliced but tough.

About the food & drinks: Like the original Washington Square location, the Chinatown branch of this restaurant is best known for its quality preparations of the classic Vietnamese noodle soup. From choosing the right cuts of meat to slowly cooking the broth in a balanced medley of fragrant spices before adding bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil, lime, scallions, cilantro and onions, every step is taken to ensure that the ingredients and process reflect as closely as possible the practices of the best noodle shops in Vietnam. Try the Saigon option with thinly sliced beef, brisket and meatballs or the grilled lemongrass chicken variety. If the weather does not call for a steaming bowl of broth or if you are in the market for something refreshing, order the spicy slow-braised short ribs or the vegetarian-seasoned soy protein with mushrooms over a bed of rice vermicelli that’s served at room temperature and mixed with cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, daikon, Vietnamese chili sauce, scallions and fried shallots. A wine and beer list offers selections that complement both the mild and spicy elements of the cuisine.
