Chiara Bistro Restaurant Review:

The contemporary Mediterranean bistro located in suburbia --- with its Pottery Barn aesthetic and its quasi-global pantry --- may be ubiquitous, but that doesn't mean it can’t still be a pleasure to encounter. Westwood’s Chiara is a case in point. Granted, urbanites needn’t go out of their way to try this approximation of what’s on every corner of their own turf, but locals can be grateful they don’t have to make the trek to Boston when such good food is right in their neighborhood. Sip a creative cocktail like a strawberry basil margarita and share roasted eggplant hummus with goat cheese, or potato gnocchi filled with grilled corn kernels, apple wood bacon and asparagus. The coriander-dusted Maine scallops with a plum ginger glaze would be worth a visit on its own; other standouts include the grilled flat-iron steak frites and roasted chicken with Parmesan polenta. For dessert, we suggest the signature chèvre cheesecake. Chef Steve LaCount (formerly of The Country Club in Brookline) is a friendly, vibrant presence in the dining room.
