Siena Tavern Restaurant Review:

An herb wall hangs behind the bar of this venture from restaurateur and Top Chef Fabio Viviani, a rustic Italian place in partnership with the Bull & Bear and Public House crew. The from-scratch concept plays pretty heavily, but the food is good enough that it’s endearing. Start with a wood-fired pizza topped with seasonal ingredients (we like the charred ramp), but do not miss the pillowy coccoli, meant to be torn open and stuffed with stracchino, prosciutto and truffle honey. Pastas likewise don’t disappoint, from the homey crock of individual lasagna to the airy gnocchi in truffle cream. Among entrées, the balsamic-glazed halibut with tomato-olive salsa is a standout. For dessert, nothing but the bomboloni with three squeezable sauces will do. A moderately priced wine list, handful of creative cocktails and house Goose Island brew are other boons. A dedicated puppy patio complete with grilled Puppy Ciao (grilled chicken, burger or skirt steak) plus a gluten-free menu round out the extras.
