Taste of Texas Restaurant Review:

Restaurateur Edd Hendee and his wife Nina opened Taste of Texas in 1977. The sprawling building is decorated with Texas artifacts such as museum-quality documents signed by early Texas leaders. But more than being a repository of Lone Star history, this restaurant in far West Houston draws steak-hungry folks for the Certified Angus beef it has served for 38 years. They offer up rib-eye steak by the ounce, cut to your desired thickness; slow-roasted prime rib; filet Oscar topped with a two-ounce crab cake and hollandaise sauce; a massive tomahawk steak; and a huge bone-in porterhouse. For lunch there are sandwiches, burgers and salads. Typical steakhouse sides include au gratin potatoes, fresh asparagus and loaded baked potatoes. A full bar and a lengthy wine list round out the experience, along with desserts like the Snickers pie.
