Tommyknocker Brewery & Pub Restaurant Review:

Named after the gnomes that allegedly aided Idaho Springs’s 19th-century miners, this is a fine example of what a brewpub should be. For starters, the building is a 100-year-old former hotel loaded with rustic charm, which has since been divided into a bar and dining room in view of the tanks. Stylistic diversity marks the blackboard beer list, from staples like the Pickaxe IPA and Maple Nut Brown Ale to seasonals and exclusives such as cocoa porter or oatmeal stout, while the menu follows the pub grub formula with a bit of flair, featuring elk and bison as well as beef burgers, supplemented by duck wings or chips made from spent grains. Cap off your mountain-town trip with a stop at the larger-than-life statue of cartoon character Steve Canyon.
