THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Umami Burger Restaurant Review:

This minimalist Old Pasadena branch of Umami Burger is proof the burger craze still has legs. The namesake --- a beef patty with shiitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, Parmesan crisp and homemade ketchup --- is a fine burger, but we actually prefer the less convoluted truffle burger with garlic aïoli. The seared ahi burger with gingered carrots and wasabi tartar sauce is a nice alternative to beef, as is the meat-like (but vegan) Impossible Burger. Truffled fries are more than respectable, but better are the fluffy tater tots. Desserts include premium ice creams from L.A. Creamery and pastries from Cake Monkey, a first-rate North Hollywood bakery. There’s a nifty list of wines for a burger joint, craft beers and cocktails, too.
