Polk Street hole-in-the-wall serves arguably the best fish 'n' chips in San Francisco and the prices are dirt cheap to boot. Generous pieces of flaky white cod are battered and fried to order, and the thick-cut chips are double-fried---once lightly and again just before serving---so they are piping hot with a crisp exterior. Though service is friendly, the stark bare-bones space and unflattering fluorescent lighting doesn't invite you to settle in, but you can always take it to go.
