Piccolo Ristorante’s staff and owners are gracious, and the renovated room has made the cozy, candlelit space twice as large, though it’s just as intimate as before. Starters include a crispy veal sweetbreads "burger" with a quail egg and truffle caviar, and pan-seared scallops with truffle fondue. Diners move on to intriguing pastas such as tortelli di rana pescatrice (monkfish-stuffed ravioli with mascarpone and micro celery), or risotto with house-made wild boar sausage ragù, studded with blueberries, and made with aged acquerello rice. Among entrées, roasted rabbit with chestnuts is a good choice, as is the large Berkshire pork chop with a porcini vanilla sauce. Desserts like pineapple carpaccio and imported Amaretto cookies with frozen soft cream make for a strong finish. The wine list includes interesting Italian organic selections.
