Iain Dale used to be a political lobbyist, now while running the hugely popular Politico’s he’s also writing books. He got the idea from a shop in Washington D.C. and opened this one just before New Labour got in in 1997. Downstairs is a huge selection of political journals, books, post cards and gift items; upstairs take your coffee and cakes and watch the goings-on in the House of Commons on large-screen television. And keep your eyes open, you never know who you might meet, though on the whole it’s a steady stream of civil servants from the nearby government offices.
