Pollo Tropical Restaurant Review:
Yes, it's fast food. And these days the expanding chain has scores of branches throughout South Florida (and a few in other states), supplementing this original South Beach location. But don't confuse Pollo Tropical with generic grilled chicken chains; the fare's consistently tasty, with a regional slant as solid as at far fancier table-service restaurants. PT’s open flame-grilled chicken parts are cooked skin-on for superior flavor, leaving decisions regarding removing the fatty bits where they belong---with consumers. Diners can also choose from other entrées, such as flame-grilled ribs or mojo-marinated roast pork topped with sautéed onions. Traditional Cuban/Caribbean sides---plantains, boiled yuca, black beans and rice---are much more interesting than standard fast food fries. A wide range of dipping sauces insures that diners are never bored. When you're looking for a meal that's quick and inexpensive but still typical of Miami tastes, look for a PT.
