For terrific kebabs, head straight to Polo Grill in Fairfax, a low-key restaurant featuring a lunchtime nonstop buffet selection of two kebabs plus assorted other Persian fare. We vote that the ground-beef kebabs are some of the area's finest; the juicy, tender chicken kebabs run a close second. The glassed-in tandoori oven is right up front, so you can watch your kebabs and puffy breads cooking to order. If you don't mind Saturday night mobs, come for the weekly special: baghali polo, a tender lamb shank with baby lima beans and basmati rice. To finish, try the rose water-scented Persian ice cream.
