Portofino Cucina Italiana Restaurant Review:

Portofino is a charming little neighborhood Italian spot in a part of downtown L.A. that can certainly use the charm. An airy dining room is warmed with tones of gold and sienna, showcasing modern art and enlivened by live jazz piano some nights. Personable chef/owner Diego Ortoli hails from Naples. He and his wife Atsuko greet each customer and make recommendations on the modest all-Italian wine list that offers some good bargains. Italian standards are straightforward and classical, ranging from Angus meatballs, carpaccio and mixed beet salad to mushroom risotto, a host of sturdy pastas and chicken piccata. Notable is an expansive gluten-free menu (including gluten-free panini and pastas), and the kitchen can adjust dishes for vegans with quite good results. Desserts include authentic tiramisu, cannoli and flourless chocolate cake.
