Post & Beam Restaurant Review:
This soulful, farm-to-table spot in Baldwin Hills draws foodies from all over town for seasonal California cuisine with a savory Southern accent. It’s easy to relax in the airy, modern dining room or on the rustic patio edged by a kitchen garden. It’s chic, but not formal --- you can come watch the Lakers while perched at the bar with small plates of sticky little ribs or deviled eggs with house-smoked catfish. Or gather a group of friends to sip elegant bourbon cocktails paired with a rich burrata salad with roasted asparagus, mushrooms, arugula and roasted shallot vinaigrette. Even with a serious nod to soul food, expect dishes to be more Southern California than Southern cliché --- nothing is deep-fried. A grilled organic pork chop is served with peach chutney; long-cooked greens combine with ham hocks, and black-eyed peas with sweet potato and bacon. Lighter fare such as a wild mushroom, goat cheese and black kale pizza also goes nicely with something from the well-chosen wine list.
