THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Prego Restaurant Review:

Prego’s panoramic view of the city from the 28th floor of the Madison Renaissance Hotel is its best feature. Though the Chianti-colored walls decked with vivid contemporary posters create an inviting atmosphere, the service lacks warmth. The menu veers toward Italian---though without much authenticity or finesse. New chef Peter Orel, on board since Spring 1999, may change all that in time, as no doubt will the tinkering of consulting chef Monique Barbeau (formerly of Fullers), who joined the team more recently. But for now, there is little to recommend here beyond roasted prosciutto-wrapped asparagus or crunchy, polenta-laced crabcakes as starters, and filet mignon with gorgonzola and a Madiera demi-glace as a main course. A sinfully rich, dark chocolate-cherry-pistachio spumoni is the only dessert option that makes sense.
