Prospect Restaurant Review:

Through an unassuming storefront lies an otherwise unremarkable-looking restaurant. There’s a standard bar up front, a few seats at a counter in back overlooking the kitchen, and average tables in between. However, as is the case with books, you shouldn't judge this place by its cover. Prospect is turning out sophisticated and refined cuisine. The wine list is straightforward, favoring French varietals, but the cocktails are more interesting. Inventive, but without too many frills is the caipirinha, hyped up with ginger; the Grampson is a gin martini with ramp pickle juice. Bites start the meal: truffled deviled eggs or pork torchon on crostini. Changing with the seasons, appetizers might include a chilled pea soup with charred leeks or a roasted vegetable salad with mint vinaigrette. Pastas are delicate and house-made; the strozzapreti with braised lamb manages to be intensely savory while not too heavy. Whole dorade for two lightens the load paired with an herb salad and topped with a Thai bird chili sauce. Dessert is something of an afterthought, but the selections on the cheese plate are always topnotch.
