When partners Michael Brockhoff and Sam Roots unleashed this jovial watering hole that’s a go-to gathering place for banter, burgers and beer, the Edgewater neighborhood embraced it with open arms. The burgers, embellished with all the usual suspects, plus additions like fried eggs, barbecue sauce or guacamole, are a highlight, as are the fries, dusted with Old Bay seasoning and served in baskets. The beer-battered onion rings, judiciously salted, requisitely greasy and heaped higher than a stack of old tires at the junkyard, have their own posse of zealots --- and with good reason. Witty, pithy bartenders add to the joint’s considerable charm, pouring full pints (the right way) of Deschutes Black Butte Porter, Fuller’s London Pride and a whole slew of other brews, always with a genuine smile. It’s everything you want in a neighborhood roost --- and a whole lot more.
