Provino's Italian Restaurant Restaurant Review

: Achieving consistency across all units, Provino’s half dozen or so metro area locations (plus one in Rome, Ga., and one in Chattanooga, Tenn.) feature Italian fare at wallet-friendly prices. A big bowl of fairly refreshing oil-and-vinegar-dressed salad and a basket of tasteless rolls dripping with garlic butter precede all dinners. Seafood, chicken and veal preparations are offered; the veal or chicken Marsala comes with fresh mushrooms and a blanket of thick, sweet-tasting sauce paired with an incongruent side of spaghetti and tomato sauce. Eggplant vegetale aligns breaded, fried eggplant rounds with other vegetables (broccoli, squash, zucchini) beneath tomato sauce and cheese, again sided with tomato-sauced spaghetti. The portion is plenty for two. Among desserts is rice pudding under a thick layer of whipped cream topped by a maraschino cherry. Wine selections are extremely limited, with only nine choices beyond the house red, white and blush (neither producers nor vintages identified). A few gluten-free options are on the menu and there's a kids' menu.
