Rao's Restaurant Review

: Inspired by the family-owned, century-old East Harlem original, this 200-seat Italian restaurant overlooks Caesars’ Garden of the Gods Italian marble pool. You’ll find old-style Italian cuisine served in two ten-table dining rooms, each one re-creating the cozy ambience of the New York location. The Strip views and other seating areas are additions, but the signature jukebox copies the one back East. Begin with the antipasto created with roasted peppers, olives, traditional meats and cheeses. Among other starters, we like the fritto misto composed of fried calamari, shrimp, cod fish and zucchini, and caprese salad with heirloom cherry tomatoes tossed in garlic oil with burrata, basil and Rao’s 12-year-aged balsamic vinegar. Be sure to sample some of the family recipes, signature dishes passed through the generations, like the fresh-made tagliolini with sweet peas and prosciutto cotto and light Parmesan cream, and the classic New York cheesecake. We also like the chocolate-rich cocoa powder tiramisu and the German chocolate cake filled with coconut pecan caramel and finished with a layer of chocolate mousse.
