Previously known for its rock-and-roll bars and annual accordion festival, Cotati now sports some of the best barbecue north of Oakland, thanks to restaurateur-chef Rasta Dwight Jones. The fanciful Caribbean-inspired murals that line the walls of the takeout counter and back dining room set the tone for Jones’ attention to detail and the fresh ingredients. He slow-smokes the jerk pork, spareribs and beef tri-tip for 13 hours and mixes his own spices, throwing in a little bit of Texas, a smidgen of St. Louis, and a whole lot of his own preferences. Sonoma locals have learned to call ahead to reserve the Burn Your Face hot links and chicken before they sell out. The side dishes change daily.
