THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Red Heifer Restaurant Review:
Touted as a steakhouse, The Red Heifer---located in Bethesda's restaurant row---bears the unique distinction of being all-kosher, which means no mixing of meat and dairy foods on the premises. To assure that, the restaurant has its own rabbi on-call who supervises the work of the kitchen, the quality of the beef and that it is kosher, and the staff's preparation of the food. Priced at $30 and above, entrées are geared for a high-brow clientele with wide pockets. (Note: The chef offers a buffalo rib-eye, probably the only one in town.) There's a pedestrian kosher free-range chicken Marsala with wild mushrooms and pearl onions, a blackened salmon Caesar salad and a fruit tart for dessert made with a mock custard. An unusual destination, and not geared for those who enjoy mixing meats and dairy.
