THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Red Herring Restaurant Review:

About chef Dave Woodall: Chef Dave Woodall spent time in the kitchens of Josiah Citrin’s Mélisse and Lemon Moon, and got a feel for Eastside sensibilities at Blair’s in Silver Lake. Now, he and his TV-producer wife Alexis Martin Woodall (American Horror Story) have created their dream restaurant together in Eagle Rock, offering a stylish neighborhood place with lovely cooking.

The décor: Alexis Martin Woodall brings her Hollywood production experience to the two-story restaurant to create an offbeat designer chic, and an artsy vibe. Velvet banquettes, a sleek bar, and striking patterned wallpaper lit by a dramatic bubble lamp chandelier offer an ambient, warm, intimate feel, and the upstairs room is privy to dreamy sunset views.

Likes: Chic and funky décor, warm hospitality and fun neighborhood vibe.
Dislikes: Limited cocktail list, no liquor.

About the food: Woodall’s American bistro menu is driven by seasonal, local ingredients. It hints both at the chef’s Maryland childhood in his tender blue crab cakes and California French technique in the smooth chicken liver pâté or house-made sausage. These are pleasant to nibble over an infused wine, vermouth or beer cocktail. For mains, fresh linguini comes simply tossed with black mussels, tomato, parsley and wine; or look for a creamy and green spring pea risotto with mascarpone and pea sprouts. The weighty Duroc pork chop is a popular dish, and comes skillfully grilled. Don’t forget to add crispy Brussels sprouts with harissa, smoked potatoes and salsa verde. A sweet balance to the savory comes in an irresistible flourless chocolate torte, heightened with Bavarian coffee, bacon brittle and candied kumquat.
