THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Reservoir Restaurant Review:

While unlikely Eastside neighborhoods such as Glendale and Montrose have spawned true gastronomic destinations (Palate Food + Wine, Bashan Restaurant), fine dining in Silver Lake has never quite reached its apex. But now that Gloria Felix has opened this chic spot on Silver Lake Boulevard, things have finally changed. Felix has cooked at the best of them---Lucques, A.O.C. and Grace---and did a TV stint with Gordon Ramsay. Seasonal dishes are friendly, but simultaneously bold, interesting and high-concept; tender panko-fried shrimp nestle in a jícama taco with spicy aïoli and fennel slaw, a dynamic combination of texture and tastes. Another standout is the open-face lasagna with slow-roasted pork and braised artichokes, unfurling with flavors of a rich pork jus and touch of gremolata. Felix rests her proteins, like buttery black cod with miso or braised beef short ribs glazed with pomegranate reduction, on sophisticated “setups” (i.e., sides). Diners can choose between silky brown-butter cauliflower purée with roasted baby carrots, braised leeks and black garlic or Tuscan kale with fingerling potatoes, baby yams and roasted heirloom tomatoes, among others. Casual pizzas boast imagination, adorned with chorizo, quince and Asiago, though they can be a bit greasy. Inside it’s elegant and intimate, while the outdoor patio comes alive with the bustle of the neighborhood and the Silver Lake groove.
