THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Restaurant Kolumbia Restaurant Review:

Executive chef Jamie Stachowski made the big move from suburban nightspot to DC hot spot, with the change sharpening his culinary wits. The interior is ultra-glamorous, set like a contemporary jewel: Wood walls are set off by magenta, the front bar is elegant enough for the most discerning clientele, clear glass panels appear to float overhead, and the contemporary wall sculpture of twisting vines with colorful flowers sets a cheerful tone. Our only complaint: loud '30s jazz can make conversation difficult. As for the menu, Stachowski has devised a collection of complementary dishes that match the season and the spirit of the restaurant. We applaud the use of baba ghanouj as one of the spreads for the bread basket, and the inclusion of such seasonal pleasures as fresh fava beans folded into a salad of goat cheese and small green lentils. His specials might include a seafood delicacy or an unusual soup, like a chilled saffron sunchoke version topped with a scoop of Greek salad. The grilled swordfish steak on a bed of cubed eggplant and tender broccoli rabe with a garnish of baby squid becomes edible sculpture in his hands. Among desserts, he features some high-calorie options such as a molten chocolate cake, yet takes into account today's calorie counters with homemade sorbet.
