Next door to the historic Hotel Villa Portofino, in the center of Avalon, this is a justifiably popular dinner destination. With its intimate dimensions, cozy linen-clad tables and European vibe, the mustard-colored dining room is also one of the most romantic on the island. And given the lovely ocean views, minor deficiencies in the cooking are more easily forgiven. The classic Italian cuisine ranges from appetizers like beef carpaccio and calamari fritti to entrées such as rack of lamb braised in a rosemary sauce, veal Marsala and a hearty cioppino. Most consistent are pastas, which include chicken-filled mezzalune with herb sauce, potato gnocchi in Gorgonzola cream, and familiar spaghetti and meatballs. The cocktail lounge is an ideal spot to relax with your favorite drink and enjoy the view of the yachts in the harbor.
