Robert's Russian Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Catering to the Russian immigrants who have settled in the Hollywood area, this friendly spot has a big-screen TV mounted on the wall but no liquor license. (There's no corkage fee if you bring your own bottle.) Start with boiled beef dumplings known as pelmeni or one of the eggplant dishes, prepared either Armenian- or Israeli-style. For your entrée, choose from a list of traditional Russian dishes like borscht, chicken Kiev, beef Stroganoff, shashlik (shish kebab), grilled sturgeon with pomegranate sauce or marinated rack of lamb. Try the non-alcoholic Tann, a foamy, tangy mixture of unsweetened yogurt and seltzer water. Also located at 137 S. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, 818-955-8091.
