Rojo Restaurant Review:

Cheerful Rojo is lively with red walls, blue lights and a bandit painting keeping watch over the bar. Laney DeJonge and Clark Lopez offer Latin dishes such as organic steak fajitas, red chili pork burritos and shrimp quesadillas. Tacos with arugula and pineapple salsa may enfold chicken or mahi mahi. A spinach burrito with pico de gallo and rice and beans, topped with queso and salsa, offers vegetarians a hearty meal. A gluten-free menu is available, too. On the American side, a Philly cheesesteak or a pan-seared tilapia with spinach and corn succotash would satisfy. Finish with blackberry cobbler or molten chocolate chip pie. Chorizo con huevos, migas and breakfast burritos are among brunch options. Organic wines fill the short wine list, while other libations include imported and domestic beers and house-made sangría. Rojo opens the first Tuesday of each month for the Sidewalk Salon, gathering Birmingham filmmakers and film fans for networking and to hear a guest speaker on movie-related issues. Doors open at 6 p.m. for this event, and all are welcome.
