THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Roy's Restaurant Review:
A faintly nautical air pervades this curving, bi-level space filled with burnished wood, secluded nooks. From the glass-walled pavilion, the out-of-town clientele who frequent this flagship restaurant in the Westin Hotel can enjoy the ebb and flow of traffic on Fifth Avenue. They are perhaps enjoying the city view more than the polyglot menu, which requires careful navigation to arrive at a rewarding dining experience. We favor the signature crab cakes in butter sauce, and fish, when its simply presented, as with basil-crusted opakapaka or hibachi salmon. But too much of the menu doesnt deliver on its promises and food turns up bland, greasy or both. Desserts are more pleasing, particularly baked Alaska, layers of meringue with vanilla, mango and chocolate chip ice cream in a deep pool of fruit coulis. It comes with wonderful cookies spiked with cinnamon, clove and cayenne.
