THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Rupperts Restaurant Review:
Its location on the edge of Chinatown may look iffy, but Rupperts is one of DCs hippest restaurants, with its spare yet trendy décor. Its as popular with DC suits as with suburbanites. Its useless to tell you what to expect on the menu, because the chefs cooking is always driven by what is freshest at the market. At one meal, your appetizer may be air-dried paper-thin slices of venison about the size of a silver dollar; at another, foie gras with luscious dates. You may fall madly in love with the Angus steak on a bed of turnip greens with mashed potatoes, but at your next visit the menu may star sliced buffalo tenderloins paired with sweet roasted turnips. The food is unique. So, too, are the breads, which are baked several times during the day. Youll want to smuggle some home. Desserts are deliciously unpredictable: The selection may include an apple and pear brioche or maple ice cream on a waffle.
