Ruth Fertel mortgaged her home back in 1965 to buy a little steakhouse in an old New Orleans neighborhood. More than 40 years later, Ruth's Chris Steak House is a Prime beef empire, and its Detroit metro area restaurant is a favorite among locals. This branch is located in the Top of Troy Building. With stern warnings to keep your hands on your lap, the staff serves your steak at a searing 500 degrees. You can hear it coming before it's placed, sizzling with melted butter, in front of you. The clubby atmosphere attracts businessmen at lunchtime. Those who celebrate in style come for the porterhouse for two and Champagne after the sun sets. Although the steaks are generously cut, we recommend you also try a taste of New Orleans with the shrimp rémoulade cocktail, and go with the au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach as sides. A classic Creole crème brûlée provides a delicate finish. For libations, try the vintage-inspired cocktails such as the Dirty Goose Martini, Broad Street Hurricane and Ruby Red Greyhound, made with Belvedere pink grapefruit liqueur, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, freshly squeezed Ruby Red grapefruit, lime juice and a grapefruit slice.
