Sabor Latino Restaurant Review:

Owner Manuel Barco’s native Peruvian cuisine shares the stage with Mexican fare in this spacious restaurant tucked into a shopping center off Green Springs Highway. Ceviche alone is worth the trip. Off-menu dishes such as papa rellena (stuffed potatoes) and frijoles canarios (canary beans) join such daily selections as bistek encebollado (steak smothered with tomatoes and onion) and pollo con champinones (grilled chicken breast with white mushroom sauce). Yucca fries might be a better bet than french fries. Saturday and Sunday only, there’s a hearty chicken and noodle soup, but be warned they include bones and innards for more flavor. On the Mexican side, you can’t go wrong with any of the mixed platters, but we like the Sabor Latino enchiladas (two shrimp and one cheese and onion). Flan, with or without Kahlúa, will satisfy a sweet tooth. Inca kola and chicha morada (a spicy, fruity Peruvian purple corn drink) join tea and soft drinks. There’s a full bar with drink specials every day except Friday, as well as imported and domestic beers.
