Salmon n' Bannock Restaurant Review:

Since it opened, Salmon n' Bannock, Vancouver's only First Nations restaurant, has attracted eager diners. The draw? Wild local fish and free-range game, plus bannock, an addictive, tender unleavened bread common to aboriginal peoples throughout North America. Begin the meal with a game or salmon sampler served with berry preserves, cedar jelly, smoked cheese and bannock crackers. Move on to wild sockeye salmon (all fish is Ocean Wise certified), braised bison back ribs or bison meatloaf accompanied by bannock, daily vegetables and potatoes. Other options include elk and boar burgers, and Indian tacos made with bannock and filled with bison, elk, boar or game sausage. Desserts feature fruit pies, huckleberry cheesecake and bannock bread pudding in case you're still craving more of this staple. Parties of six or more (reserve in advance) may order a multi-course Feast menu, which features specialties such as bison, elk and boar roasts or seafood replete with salmon, crab, mussels and BC spot prawns. The drinks list is short: BC beers, ciders and wines from the Osoyoos Indian Band's Nk'Mip Cellars as well as Lavina Estate. Service is friendly and informative.
