Shanghai Mong Restaurant Review:
One of the less crowded choices in Koreatown, Shanghai Mong offers quick, pleasant service with a full menu of Korean, Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Open until 4 a.m., the restaurant serves dinner through the night, especially catering to the post-karaoke set. The food, if not remarkable, is plentiful and fresh. The menu is diner-like with a broad range of starters, from noodles to soup, along with heartier choices like pad thai bibimbap and sweet-and-sour chicken. Try one of the hibachi platters, selecting shrimp, beef or tofu; it arrives sizzling hot, and has a dizzying and somewhat puzzling array of Asian and non-Asian foods, including spring rolls, creamed corn and dill pickle slices. A lemon soju cocktail from the “Korean cocktail menu” is refreshing although not as boozy as it could be.
