THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Shell Shucked Restaurant Review:

HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. New Orleanian proprietor Kelly Hotard, who also owns the nearby Thai restaurant Basil Leaf with her husband, delves into her own native cuisine at this seafood house. While Hotard refuses to call herself a chef, she says that everything on Shell Shucked's menu is something she might make any evening at home. The best-selling fried green tomato appetizer with warm crawfish-mushroom sauce has curry-like Asian overtones. Another winner, mixed greens with crab salad and avocado, makes a light, summery main course. Fried and boiled seafood, and raw oysters, represent more traditional regional tastes. The low-lying, cement-floored room is cool and shady, much like a beachside seafood hut, and the bright wall murals of tropical underwater scenes add to that vibe. While the casual service is appropriate to the low-brow surroundings, some of the lofty prices are not.
