Sofrito Rico's flavorful Puerto Rican dishes are as flavorful as they are filling, especially washed down with a summery rum drink.

THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sofrito Rico Restaurant Review:

The atmosphere at this Puerto Rican restaurant is informal, with a corrugated metal “roof” hanging above the open kitchen and the rich scent of garlic and citrus throughout. Rich rum drinks and a small beer and wine list include selections that complement the menu, and entrées are accompanied by crisp-fried tostones and a piquant mojito dipping sauce. If you need greens, a salad with mango and a tart dressing is an unusual starter and makes for a healthier beginning than an assortment of savory empanadas (which are delicious). The entrées, while generously portioned, don’t display the same kindness with bold flavors as the mojito sauce. Chuletas a la sartén---pan-seared pork chops marinated in lemon and adobo---are tender and mild. Pollo guisado, chicken in a rich tomato sauce, is recommended as a good introduction to Puerto Rican cuisine---an apt description for this flavorful entrée, which does provide the spice we are seeking. Service is attentive and friendly, and lunch is available.
