THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sol de Espana Restaurant Review:
If you are planning on a weekend dinner at Rockville's other Spanish restaurant, make reservations, for Sol de España is small, and tends to get very, very busy. Discovered and treasured for its take on authentic Spanish cooking, Sol de España has a kitchen crew that tries to keep its food true to the country's roots. Consequently, the shrimp with garlic is truly garlicky, and the Zarzuela Mediterraneo, or seafood stew, is chock full of meaty nuggets of shellfish and fish filets in a garlicky broth. Paella, even a vegetarian version, gazpacho, veal chops, duck with sherry and a smattering of tapas all make a fine prelude to the made-on-the-premises cakes and flan. What is missing in atmosphere---a few oil paintings and a solitary bullfighting picture---is more than made up for in fine food and friendly staff, who demystify their country's cooking for the American public.
