SOMA Kombucha Speakeasy Restaurant Review:

Owner Jean-Pierre Parent has developed a proprietary method for fermenting the probiotic-rich tea-based beverage kombucha for several months without brewing alcohol or vinegar. The result is rich flavor and fruitiness in a drink that often comes out thin and sour in less experienced hands. Selections vary with the day but some of the best include creamy mango chipotle, refreshing pear, spicy ginger, "coffee boocha" (all the antioxidants of coffee without the caffeine) and cherry chai. "Jun" is a gentler style of kombucha made with organic green tea and wildflower honey. Sipping kombucha at the speakeasy is a fun and different experience. Walk downstairs to a cozy brick-lined refuge below the busy streets of industrial North Portland. Take off your shoes to enjoy energizing vibes from the "earthed" floor. Serve yourself from the kombucha bar and relax on a cushion. When departing, pay on the honor system (cash or credit card). Several other probiotic-rich foodstuffs are sold, including "living salad dressings," but currently the Speakeasy doesn't offer meals.
